THIRST - DVD MovieBE MY BABY - DVD MovieThe Pleasure Drivers lays out three separate interconnected stories involving an adulterous therapist, a young sociopath call girl, a vicious lesbian hit woman, a white trash kidnapper, and a brain-damaged ex-cult guru. Described as funny, sexy, edgy and dangerous, The Pleasure Drivers energetically explores the dark side of Los Angeles and how it gleefully relates to the gasoline of libido.

Features: Wide Screen PresentationConsidering that Andrzej Sekula,! director of The Pleasure Drivers, was Quentin Tarantino's cinematographer on Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, it's not too surprising that this 2005 film sometimes echoes the latter's approach. Indeed, were it not for the fact that the story makes little sense, the dialogue isn't funny, the characters are poorly drawn, and the acting is almost uniformly sub-par, you might think this was the work of Tarantino himself. As it is, Sekula has made a movie that clearly values style over substance, achieving a modicum of the former and almost none of the latter. Screenwriter Adam Haynes' story revolves primarily around a low-life "caregiver" (Lauren Holly) tending to a mentally unstable young man (Angelo Spizzirri) whose father, some kind of cult leader, has been less than forthcoming with the financial support she depends on; her solution is to kidnap the kid's equally weird sister (Steffany Huckaby). Meanwhile, a full-of-himself professor-therapist (Angus M! acFadyen) who constantly whispers Freudian drivel into a tape ! recorder finds himself rejected by his wife and glommed on to by an oversexed student (Lacy Chabert). These folks, along with "a vicious lesbian hit woman" (no, really), come together somewhere in the Southern California desert, where the film mercifully comes to a close. Sekula favors moody lighting and odd camera angles, the better to illuminate a cast of scenery-chewing, unlikable characters drifting through a tale that will intrigue almost no one. The cover blurb notes that The Pleasure Drivers has been "described as funny, sexy, edgy and dangerous." Maybe so, but that description must have come from someone who didn't actually see it. --Sam GrahamSHERMAN'S WAY - DVD MovieHOMETOWN LEGEND - DVD MovieJANUARY 2007 ISSUE OF MAXIM MAGAZINE. The process of creating a laminate is lamination, which in common parlance refers to the placing of something between layers of plastic and applying heat or cold and/or pressure, usually with an adhesive. Proper laminating can prevent fading from sunlight or other bright lights, destructive Ultra-Violet rays, fingerprints and smudging from simple handling, pollutants, and even the vapors from smoke, cleaning solutions, and other harmful atmospheric elements. If you truly care about a piece of artwork, and choose not to frame it, the only real way to ensure its safety is to laminate the image.

Released in conjunction with a CD of the same name, Absolute Garbage is a collection of 15 music videos from the rock band Garbage. Fronted by Shirley Manson, whose smooth and distinctive voice is equally adept at purring as it is growling, the group also includes drummer Butch Vig, guitarist Steve Marker, and bassist Duke Erikson. But make no mistake about it: The visuals are all about the photogenic Manson. It was their breakthrough single "Only Happy When It Rains" that made an impact on both radio and MTV in 1995. Manson, who at the time resembled a fierce, red-headed version of supermodel Kate Moss, appears on sc! reen in a blue minidress that matches her eye shadow and nail polish, and knee-length Doc Martens. Interspersed between random shots of extras dressed like Teletubbies, deconstructed bathrooms, and her bandmates (who are musically gifted but not particularly video friendly), Manson pleads her case for being happy when things "are complicated." That her dress changes in color to pink is almost incidental in the vignette, and "Only Happy When It Rains" manages to marry both arty intentions with a rock 'n' roll cool vibe that doesn't come across as either clichéd or lofty. Between 1995 and 2007, when Absolute Garbage was released, the band broke up and got back together a handful of times. But there is a cohesiveness to their look and sound, even as it evolves, that makes them distinctively Garbage. They worked with some of the era's most popular video directors. Fashion photographer Matthew Rolston succinctly captures the mood of "I Think I'm Paranoid," while Samuel! Bayer (best known for his work with Nirvana) helmed "Vow," a ! simple p erformance piece that captures the band's raw energy. Actually, it's the concert style videos ("When I Grow Up") where the band seems most at home--commanding a stage. While some of the videos are widescreen, the majority are full screen, But all of them pop on the TV screen with their vivid imagery and vibrant colors. The DVD also includes a documentary called "Thanks for Your Uhhh, Support," that weaves in home videos, news clips, and concert footage. While the band's music indicates that Garbage formed organically, it wasn't quite that simple. The three men--all music producers living in Wisconsin at the time--saw a video of Manson performing in a different band and sought out the Scottish singer to front their group. They were smart enough to know that no matter how talented they were, they needed a voice--and face--to define them. --Jae-Ha Kim

If you blinked, you might not have noticed that this trendsetting phenom! enon of the early '90s--the Power Rangers--has switched gears! with a new set of warrior actors and a new setting: space. In this 90-minute feature that combines several TV episodes, a portal to another galaxy opens up as the Rangers find their magical outfits and warrior status on another planet that is being terrorized by the awful Scorpius. These badly dressed meanies--with Sid and Marty Krofft-like foolishness in tow--come to destroy the moon, which is luckily a oxygen-laden, earth-gravity place now. Kids that originally dug the series have assuredly gone on to other fare, but the TV show finds new fans with their cornball sets, bright colors, and nonstop action. The latter point has increased in the Lost Galaxy series. With the fighting armor and big guns, the human space warriors look like extras from the ultra-slick and ultra-violent Spaceship Troopers. Now there's no gruesome violence in this series, but the modern combat, big-gun-toting teenagers may be too much for some parents. --Doug ThomasStunning! authentic autographed large format 11x14 candid photograph hand signed in bold purple metalic paint marker.

A true story of an unlikely serial killer

A brilliant biochemistry student who is also a prostitute.
A brutally bludgeoned body buried naked in the snow.

Thus begins Winter of Frozen Dreams, a sordid love story and a macabre web of blackmail, lust, and deceit. The Hoffman case was the first televised murder trial in US history.

The true-life story of Barbara Hoffman, is complex and contradictory in every sense as
she was both a brilliant biochemistry student at the University of Wisconsin and Madison s most notorious prostitute.
On a frigid, twenty-two below zero Christmas morning, Barba! ra Hoffman s [Thora Birch] distraught young fiancé, Jerry Davies [Brendan Sexton III] leads police investigators to a corpse, which only hours before, he had buried in a snow bank. Lead by Detective Lulling [Academy Award winner Keith Carradine], the police investigators uncover the naked and brutally bludgeoned body of Harry Berge. Davies desperately insists that he is not a murderer and that he and Hoffman are guilty only of burying the corpse of a stranger.

Shades of film noir blend with true crime, as Barbara Hoffman lives out her days in prison, refusing to give interviews or even go before the parole board.DARK CORNERS - DVD MovieThis suspenseful psychological thriller features hot young stars Thora Birch (GHOST WORLD, AMERICAN BEAUTY), Desmond Harrington (GHOST SHIP), and a hip, edgy cast! Co-starring Brad Renfro (Deuces Wild), Illeana Douglas (Stir of Echos) and Steve Buscemi (Fargo) in "the best role of his career" (Movieline), Ghost World is a "smartly strange comedy [that] stands out like the Taj Mahal" (Time)! While their classmates head for college, Enid (Birch) and Rebecca (Johansson) focus their energies on tormenting tho! se around them - from a goofy convenience store clerk (Renfro) to an eccentric art teacher (Douglas). But when they zero in on an oddball loner (Buscemi) looking for Miss Right, their seemingly innocent meddling threatens to shatter one of their hearts not to mention their lifelong friendship. If you've ever felt alienated by the world around you, Ghost World will offer laughter, tears, and reassurance that you are definitely not alone. Adapted by Daniel Clowes and Crumb director Terry Zwigoff from Clowes's acclaimed graphic novel, the movie spends summer vacation with high school graduates Enid (Thora Birch) and Rebecca (Scarlet Johansson). They inflict little tortures on the denizens of urban sprawl, wielding scathing irony as a defense against a "ghost world" full of pop-cultural lemmings and uncertain futures. But when Enid picks a 40-ish vintage-record collector (Steve Buscemi) as the target of her latest cruel prank, she finds herself unexpectedly attract! ed to him ("he's the opposite of everything I completely hate"! ) and is forced to confront her own crushing loneliness. This combination of deadpan sarcasm and deeply compassionate humanity makes Ghost World a rare and delicate comedy, with an ambiguous ending that suggests tragedy or hope, depending on your own point of view. --Jeff Shannon Touring Eastern Europe with her college wrestling team, Alex (Thora Birch) attends a debauched late-night party that causes Alex and several teammates to miss their train to Odessa. Her coach is furious, but a mysterious woman offers the coach and wrestlers a ride on an alternative train. The coach agrees, and the athletes, exhausted and hung over, gratefully climb aboard. But the train harbors a deadly secret, and for Alex and her fellow passengers, a blood-soaked nightmare is just beginning.Studio: First Look Home Entertain Release Date: 12/01/2009 Run time: 89 minutes Rating: RTwo teenagers journey into the Alaskan wilderness to rescue their father, a bush pilot whose plane has crashed. ! Director Fraser Heston captures the danger and beauty of Alaska in this adventurous family film about two kids who embark on a very personal rescue mission. Former 747 pilot Jake Barnes (Dirk Benedict) moved away from a fast-paced Chicago lifestyle with his two children, Jessie and Sean, after the death of his wife. While daughter Jessie thoroughly enjoys and excels in her new surroundings, son Sean's moodiness and homesickness escalates. One stormy night Jake's small plane crashes during an emergency flight, leaving him stuck on a treacherous cliff with a broken leg and no radio. The local search and rescue team soon gives up, prompting Sean and Jessie to kayak, hike, canoe, and rappel their way over many lush and snowy miles to save their dad.

Younger kids will enjoy the antics of Cubby, the baby polar bear who befriends the youthful trekkers and eventually leads them to their father. They'll also enjoy the good-natured sibling rivalry between the tough b! ut tender-hearted Jessie (Thora Birch of Now and Then) ! and Sea n (Vincent Kartheiser of The Indian in the Cupboard) and a chance to hiss at the two evil poachers (including the director's father, Charlton Heston). Parents, on the other hand, may feel compelled to explain etiquette around wild animals, the dangers of hypothermia, and how to pack for a long hike. But the scenic Cook's tour of Alaska and British Columbia makes some of these otherwise corny elements tolerable to grown-ups. --Liane Thomas

Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber

  • Jennifer Love Hewitt stars in this update of the Cinderella story. She plays the ambitious Katya Livingston, an ad exec in her late 20s who has finally arrived at the top of the social ladder--or so she thought, until she upsets another socialite at her wedding and finds herself uninvited to the ball at Covington Castle. Katya will stop at nothing to get herself on the list--and meanwhile, she mee
Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 02/01/2011 Run time: 85 minutes Rating: NrThe Client List features a great performance by Jennifer Love Hewitt and a whole lot of prurient guilty pleasure. It's a perfect chick popcorn film--and because of The Client List's subject matter, more than a few men will enjoy it too. The Client List is based on a true story, which manages to give Hewitt's character, Samantha, some sympathy amid the silliness. Samantha is a former Texas h! omecoming queen, the purtiest girl in her small hometown, who wed Rex (Teddy Sears), a former high-school football star. And Samantha's mama, Cassie, is played by Cybill Shepherd in a very canny and welcome supporting role.

The Client List opens with Samantha and Rex facing some serious financial hardships in the recession, with three small children to support and Rex's inability to work (which is never really explained). As the financial noose threatens to tighten around this all-American family, Samantha decides her only solution is to take a job at the local massage parlor. Yes, that kind of massage parlor. It's never quite clear why Samantha doesn't consider barista, say, or cashier instead of prostitute as her recession career, but that's part of the fun of The Client List. When the police crack down, as they eventually always do, Samantha must weigh turning in the client list of the title--which could change the landscape of her small town fore! ver. Hewitt really does give a good performance; she's lovely ! and even believable in the sometimes-absurd plot. The Client List may not win awards, but it's absolutely compelling and thoroughly enjoyable watching. --A.T. HurleyHow can a best friend become a guy's best girl? That's the problem facing Leah (Jennifer Love Hewitt), a sweet-natured teen with a major crush on her good pal Brad (Will Friedle). Brad has a problem of his own. He's just discovered that Brooke (Marley Shelton), his beautiful high-school study mate, is also very willing. One catch, though: no condom. So off Brad goes into the suburban night to find the one thing keeping him from romantic bliss. It should be easy. But on this anything-can-happen night of kooks and catastrophes, it's war. Director George Huang follows his satiric Swimming with Sharks with Trojan War, a wild comic adventure about finding true love where you least expect it. Get ready to lose your heartand your bank accountto a couple of sexy sirens in this "vastly enjoyable comedy" (People)! With a "first-rate cast" (The New York Times) that includesSigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ray Liotta, Jason Lee and OscarÂ(r) winner* Gene Hackman, this hilarious laugh-riot is "smart and funny" (Joel Siegel, "Good Morning America")! When it comes to conning millionaires, Page Conners (Hewitt) and her mother Max (Weaver) are real pros. Max lures them to the altar, then Page leads them into temptation and a hefty divorce settlement! Now they're about to strike gold with the ultimate sting: a wealthy, wheezing tobacco tycoon (Hackman). But before they can seal the deal, Page breaks the cardinal rule of the con and falls in love! Now Max must convince Page to hold on to her heart and the tobacco fortune or lose the best partner in crime she'll ever have! *1992: Supporting Actor, Unforgiven;! 1971: Actor, The French ConnectionHeartbreakers wants ! to be a distaff variation of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, compensating for lack of intelligence with ample cleavage provided by Sigourney Weaver and (especially) Jennifer Love Hewitt. This alone should draw plenty of drooling guys who will enjoy the scenery and affirm the movie's depiction of men as lecherous idiots. And what scenery it is! Gussied up in trampy glamour, Weaver and Hewitt play mom-and-daughter grifters with a devious routine: Max (Weaver) lures wealthy cads into marriage, and then daughter Page (Hewitt) seduces them, so Mom can discover the infidelity and fleece the chump in divorce court. They've just scammed the boss of a hot-car ring (Ray Liotta) and now it's on to Palm Beach, Florida, where they'll dupe a wheezing tobacco baron (Gene Hackman) and retire to the good life. Or so they think...

Armed with the same airheaded humor he brought to Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, director David Mirkin relies on the clichéd notion that sex turns all! men into morons--a conceit that would have worked if the dialogue and sitcom antics were more convincing. As Page's would-be paramour, Jason Lee is rendered intellectually inert, and it's hit-or-miss from that point forward. When the humor hits--as it does with Nora Dunn's rendition of a horrible housemaid--Heartbreakers hints at its full potential. Additional plot twists--not to mention Hewitt's microskirts and Wonderbras--may hold your attention, but you may find yourself harkening back to Steve Martin, Michael Caine, and those happier high jinks on the French Riviera. Singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin has a cameo role as the wedding priest. --Jeff Shannon Social satire based on the best-seller by Adele Lang humorously chronicles the life of Katya Livingston, a self-centered, obnoxious and conceited 28-year-old ad sales exec who won't let anything or anyone stand in her way in getting to the top of the San Francisco social ladder. When tax inspectors quesiton ! her claims Katya is forced to keep a financial diary and finds! time to add details about her friends, enemies and lovers all from her unique point of view.
